Manchester United went into half-time 2-0 up against Liverpool on Sunday 3 May after a ruthless opening spell at Old Trafford put Michael Carrick’s side in control of the Premier League clash.
Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 6 minute before Benjamin Šeško doubled the lead in the 14 minute following a VAR check.
United punish Liverpool before the game settles
Liverpool had barely found their shape when United struck. Cunha was waiting on the edge of the area after a corner was only half-cleared and his second effort took a heavy deflection before beating Freddie Woodman and dropping into the far corner.
The second goal came eight minutes later. United broke quickly, Bruno Fernandes helped recycle the attack and Woodman’s attempt to deal with the ball ended with it rebounding off Šeško and into the net.
VAR checked the incident for a possible handball but the goal was allowed to stand because there was no conclusive evidence to overturn it.

Liverpool see more of the ball, United create the danger
The first-half numbers told the story of Liverpool’s problem. Liverpool with more possession but United ahead where it mattered, three shots on target to Liverpool’s zero during the tracked first-half phase, with United also creating the clearer openings.
Cody Gakpo produced one of Liverpool’s better moments with a curling effort from distance in the 24 minute but it went wide.
Florian Wirtz also fired off target from the edge of the area while United nearly found a third when Bryan Mbeumo crossed for Fernandes who struck just wide from close range in the 27 minute.

Carrick’s plan works, Slot’s side struggle
United were comfortable without dominating the ball. Their best work came through sharp transitions, with Mbeumo, Cunha & Šeško repeatedly attacking the spaces Liverpool left behind.
Liverpool missing Mohamed Salah & Alexander Isak through injury, started with a reshaped attacking line.
