Polokwane City head coach Phuthi Mohafe has questioned the decision to name Lebohang Maboe as man of the match in their goalless draw with Kaizer Chiefs.
Rise and Shine halted the Soweto giants’ five-game winning streak at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium to enhance their chances for a top eight spot.
The Limpopo-based outfit currently sits seventh with 34 points accumulated from 24 league outings as they eye a third successive MTN8 qualification.
With a crucial point in the bag, Mohafe was unimpressed with the decision to recognize Maboe as player of the match, stating the Chiefs midfielder was invincible.
“We defended well today, we didn’t concede, and in the middle we neutralised Maboe and [Thabo] Cele, and I’m so confused on how did Maboe get the man of the match,” said the former Royal Eagles mentor.
“I don’t know how he got it because he was nowhere to be seen on the field. Whenever he got the ball we were there, we won most of the balls from him, so how can you be man of the match losing balls.
The 52-year-old tactician believes left-back Tlou Nkwe and winger Simon Ramabu were more deserving of the award than Maboe.
“Let’s go back to who was marking Maboe and then we go again we say we had Tlou on the left side, he deserves the man of the match,” Mohafe added.
“We have Ramabu on the right side, he gave them problems, he deserves to be the man of the match, so why not? Give them the man of the match.
Mohafe’s troops return to action with a clash against fellow top eight hopefuls Stellenbosch FC on home soil on Sunday, 26 April.
