Although Sheraldo Becker managed to equalize for Mainz shortly after the restart in the 48 minute, the momentum swung back to the Berlin side during a dramatic and clinical conclusion to the match.

Late goals seal the victory
The closing stages belonged entirely to the home side’s tactical adjustments. Oliver Burke delivered a high-pressure strike in the 88 minute to reclaim the lead sending the local supporters into a frenzy.
This was followed by Josip Juranovic sealing the historic result with a third goal in the first minute of stoppage time. This victory marks the first ever triumph by a female head coach in any of Europe’s “top five” professional leagues propelling Union Berlin to twelfth place in the standings with 36 point.
Following the final whistle, Eta joined her players on the pitch to celebrate with the fans having navigated the immense pressure of her fourth match in charge.

A new chapter in European football
Marie-Louise Eta’s appointment as an interim coach in one of the world’s most competitive leagues represents a significant departure from traditional football management.
The elite tiers of European football specifically the leagues in Germany, England, Spain, Italy and France have been managed exclusively by men.
Following the conclusion of the 2025 /26 domestic season, Eta is scheduled to transition into the permanent head coach role for the Union Berlin women’s senior team.
