Wisła Płock is starting to put its structures in order after a series of important departures that followed a very successful season. The club officially appointed a new sports director, and the choice fell on a specialist with experience gained both in Poland and abroad. However, Łukasz Stupka faces a much more difficult task than just maintaining the current course.
Wisła Płock is rebuilding its sports division
Last competition brought Wisła Płock a much better result than expected. The newcomer finished the 2025/2026 season in eighth place in the Ekstraklasa table, and for some time he was even in the race for participation in European cups. The team quickly found its place at the highest level and became one of the biggest positive surprises of the league.
After the end of the season, however, the club lost several important people responsible for the results achieved. Mariusz Misiura moved to Motor Lublin, Piotr Sadczuk resigned as president, and Radosław Kucharski finished his job as sports director. Such a large number of changes in a short time forced the quick rearrangement of the most important positions.
Łukasz Stupka is the new sports director
On Monday, Wisła Płock officially announced that Łukasz Stupka will be responsible for the sports department. The 36-year-old will replace Kucharski and will take over responsibilities related to, among others, staff development, transfer policy and cooperation with the training staff.
The new director comes to Płock at a time when expectations are high. A successful season means that the club will not be judged solely through the prism of maintenance. Fans can count on the team’s further development, so every personnel decision will be important for maintaining stability.
What experience does Łukasz Stupka have?
Stupka built his position primarily as a scout. During his career, he cooperated with clubs such as Crystal Palace, Lens and Wolverhampton. He gained experience in organizations operating in demanding markets and based on extensive player search systems.
Later he also worked for Wisła Kraków, Widzew Łódź and Bruk-Bet Termalika Nieciecza. Thanks to this, he knows both the realities of foreign football and the specifics of the Polish market. This combination may help him search for players who will match the financial and sporting capabilities of Wisła Płock.
Education is supposed to help you manage the club
The new sports director also has extensive academic background. He completed sports management studies in England and Spain, as well as a postgraduate FIFA program in Warsaw. Therefore, he did not limit his development solely to scouting work.
In Płock, he will have to use his knowledge to a much wider extent. The responsibility of the sports director includes not only the assessment of players, but also staff planning, negotiations, analysis of the coach’s needs and building a long-term strategy. This position requires combining many areas and making decisions under time pressure.
The most important task before the new season
Stupka starts work at a time when Wisła needs peace after changes in key positions. His first goal will probably be to maintain the quality of the team and find suitable replacements for players who may leave the club during the transfer window.
Expectations for the team increased after the eighth place in the Ekstraklasa. Repeating such a result will not be easy, so Wisła must act wisely and avoid accidental moves. The decision of the new sports director largely determines whether the club will maintain a positive direction and will again be able to compete without any complexes with stronger teams.
