The Polish national team of six players wrote another beautiful chapter in its history. The Reds and Whites beat the Dutch 2-1 in the semi-finals of the World Socca Championships held in Mexico and advanced to the grand final of the tournament. Klaudiusz Hirsch’s side once again proved that they can change the direction of matches, and their road to the decider was full of spectacular moments.
A perfect group stage and a difficult path to the semi-finals
The Poles arrived at the World Cup as the current European champions and confirmed their high form from the very beginning. In group D, they didn’t give any chance to their rivals – they beat Argentina (4:1), Latvia (6:2) and Paraguay (8:1). The set of points assured them that they will progress to the knockout phase.
In matches at all it was much more difficult. In the 1/8 of the final, the White and Reds faced the defending champions, the national team of Oman. After a fierce fight, they won 2:1, eliminating the previous world champions. In the quarter-finals, the opponent was the Czech team, but this time the Poles proved effective, winning 4:2.
The Netherlands set the pace, but the Poles survived through difficult times
In the semi-final, the opponent of the Poles was the Dutch national team, which imposed an intense playing style from the first minutes. Oranje carried out particularly dangerous actions at the end of the first half. In the 13th minute, the post saved the Poles after a precise shot by Safouane Karim, and a moment later the Dutch scored their goal. After a precise pass by Diego Biseswar, their striker put the ball in the net and gave the opponents the lead just before the break.
Lightning fast reaction and decisive blow
After the change of sides, the Poles took the field with great determination. Just one minute after the start of the second half, Karol Bienias made a phenomenal long shot that surprised the Dutch goalkeeper and led to the equalizing goal.
From that moment, the White and Reds began to dominate. They built subsequent actions, forced the mistakes of their opponents and came closer and closer to scoring the winning goal. It was scored in the 41st minute after a corner – Krystian Nowakowski first forced the goalkeeper to intervene and then successfully hit the deflected ball, determining the outcome of the match.
Advance to the final and a great chance for the title
After a heroic match, the Poles won 2-1 and play in the final of the World Socca Championship for the second time in history. In the decisive match, they will face the Mexican national team, who beat Kazakhstan 5-0 in the semi-final. The hosts of the tournament will be very demanding rivals, but the form of the Poles allows us to believe that they can win the trophy.
