A new player may soon appear on the Polish media market and will be of interest primarily to fans of Olympic sports. Everything indicates that the Polish Olympic Committee is preparing its own television platform, available free of charge on the Internet. If the project comes to fruition, viewers will gain a place focused on disciplines that have so far often remained in the shadow of the loudest broadcasts.

For years, Polish sports fans have had a wide selection of channels and platforms showing games from Poland and around the world. The offer is rich, but for a long time there was no medium that would put Olympic competitions at the center. It is this gap that POC TV, a project prepared by the Polish Olympic Committee, is intended to fill.

POC TV is to focus on Olympic sports

The new station will focus mainly on disciplines related to the Olympic movement, although this does not mean that it is limited to this format. There are also plans to show sporting events of a different nature, which may make the schedule more diverse and attractive to a wider audience.

The most important news for fans, however, is that access to this platform will be free. Instead of the classic model of pay or satellite television, the focus was on broadcasting on the Internet. This solution is intended to make it easier to reach viewers and increase the reach of the project without the recipients having to incur additional costs.

Work on the new station took nearly two years

Preparations for the launch of POC TV did not start recently. Information about the project shows that work on its creation lasted almost two years and included both technical and organizational resources. It was not only about the idea for a new platform, but also about building the entire infrastructure needed to implement programs and broadcasts.

The committee authorities were to develop a concept including, among others, equipment, service, broadcasting systems and a place for preparing materials. There was also the idea of ​​creating a studio at the Polish Olympic Committee headquarters, where it would be possible to build appropriate scenography and implement programs on our own terms.

Why is the start of POC TV delayed?

Although the project seems to be well advanced, its launch did not take place as previously expected. Initially, launching a satellite channel was considered, but over time it was decided that Internet broadcasting would be more profitable and practical. This change was supposed to be a step towards modernity and greater accessibility.

However, the problem turned out to be not only organizational issues, but also tensions around the Polish Olympic Committee itself. The dispute that broke out in 2024 between the President of the Polish Olympic Committee, Radosław Piesiewicz, and the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Sławomir Nitras, resulted in the implementation of the project being postponed. As a result, the launch date of the platform remains uncertain.

When can the new sports television launch?

For now, it is difficult to talk about a specific debut date, but a scenario assuming that POC TV could start in 2027 is becoming more and more common. This is when Radosław Piesiewicz’s term of office will end, which may open the way to sorting out matters surrounding the project and giving it a new pace.

If these plans are realized, Polish fans will receive a new, free place to follow Olympic sports and other events that do not always find their rightful space in the largest media. For many viewers, this may be one of the most interesting changes in the sports broadcasting market in the coming years.
