Wisła Kraków is back in the Ekstraklasa. After four years of playing behind the elite, “Biała Gwiazda” sealed the promotion with a 2-0 victory over Chrobry Głogów and could start the long-awaited celebration. With Reymont, there was no nervous waiting for a favorable result. There was dominance, effectiveness in key moments and the feeling that the club had finally closed a painful chapter.

From the very beginning, Wisła Kraków played like a team ready to advance

The Krakow team went into the match against Chrobry with a clear goal and imposed their own conditions from the first minutes. Wisła quickly began to push their opponents into their penalty area, looked for shots and showed that they did not intend to drag the matter out. After just a few minutes, the hosts had several tries, and the guests had to focus mainly on surviving the pressure.

Wisła’s advantage was documented after a quarter of an hour. Duarte sent a very good cross, and Lelieveld closed the action and gave the hosts the lead. This goal clearly calmed down Mariusz Jop’s team, but it did not take away their energy. Chrobry looked chaotic and was unable to escape the pressure for a long time.

After losing the goal, the guests could quickly take another blow. Wisła continued to attack with panache, and one of the most dangerous attempts was made by Duarte, whose shot was saved by Arndt. The hosts had an idea, pace and freedom in attack, elements that they often lacked in previous seasons of the fight to return to the elite.

Chrobry started bolder only after about half an hour of the game. A few actions allowed him to catch his breath, but did not change the picture of the match. Wisła was still more mature, more dangerous and more specific. Sanchez made an effective shot and tried to surprise the goalkeeper with a roll, but the result remained unchanged until the break.

The second half started perfectly for Wisła. Already in the 48th minute, the hosts carried out an action, after which Bozić increased the lead. With the score at 2-0, there was no doubt that Chrobry would be able to turn the tide of the match. For the fans at Reymont, it was the moment when promotion became not only close, but practically certain.

Wisła no longer had to play on the verge of risk, but they were still looking for more goals. Igbekeme and Krzyżanowski tried, and Duarte also scored, but his goal was disallowed due to offside. Kuziemka also had his opportunity. However, the score remained 2-0 until the final whistle.

Back after years of disappointment

Wisła’s promotion is particularly important because the club has been waiting for it for four years. For the 13-time Polish champion, staying in the first league was a sporting blow and a source of many disappointments. Subsequent attempts ended in failure, changes of coaches, tension around the club and questions when “White Star” would finally get out of the backfield.

This time the mission was completed by Mariusz Jop. The coach, who started as an emergency solution, organized the team and led it to the goal that his predecessors had failed to achieve. The victory over Chrobry was not only a formal seal of promotion, but also a symbolic end to a period that had lasted far too long for Reymont.

Wisła has done its job, others are still fighting

After the win against Chrobry, Wisła can now prepare to play in the Ekstraklasa. The club returns to the level at which it has built its brand over the years and where it wants not only to survive, but also to rebuild its position.

The fight for the remaining places awarded with direct promotion is still ongoing. Śląsk Wrocław, Wieczysta Kraków and ŁKS Łódź still have a chance. However, the most important thing for Wisła is that it no longer has to look to others. After four years of waiting, Kraków again has a representative from Reymont in the football elite.
