According to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, Flick has asked sporting director Deco to start looking at other options. Moretto explains:
“The main obstacle to Barcelona signing Alessandro Bastoni is Hansi Flick’s position. As the months have gone by, the German coach has expressed growing doubts about certain technical aspects of the Inter defender’s game, specifically in relation to the team’s current and future playing style. Deco has been preparing the groundwork for months, but now Flick could end up derailing the move. Barcelona is fully aware of all the financial conditions required to sign Bastoni, but Flick is urging Deco to explore other possibilities as well.”
