Argentina has won the World Cup three times – in 1978, 1986 and 2022. Each title was completely different.
The year 1978 saw a victory at home in Buenos Aires, in the final against the Netherlands (3-1 after overtime). The year 1986 was an absolute showcase for Diego Maradona – one of the best individual tournaments in the history of football, the final against West Germany won 3:2.
The third title came 36 years later – in Qatar in 2022. Argentina defeated France in what many consider to be the greatest final match of all time: 3-3 in overtime, then won 4-2 in a penalty shootout. Lionel Messi finally joined Maradona as world champion.
