Just before the most important moment of the season, Wiewiecka Kraków received news that could change everything. The club from Krakow won the appeal procedure and now has formal consent to play in the Ekstraklasa if it advances on the pitch. This ends one of the most important threads preceding the play-offs.

Perpetual Kraków with an Ekstraklasa license

Until recently, the future of Wieczna Kraków in the context of a possible game in the top league was in question. The club, which finished the first league season in third place, did not initially receive a license to play in the Ekstraklasa. The decision aroused great interest because the Krakow team was still in the promotion game and preparing for the play-offs.

The perpetual did not accept the first decision and exercised its right to appeal. The case was referred to the Appeals Committee for PZPN Club Licenses. The club had to complete documentation and demonstrate that it meets the formal, legal and infrastructural requirements needed to play in the elite.

What changed after the cancellation?

The most important problem was the legal form of the club’s operation. Pursuant to licensing requirements, an entity participating in Ekstraklasa cannot operate solely as an association. It is necessary to operate in the form of a company, which was to be one of the key elements of the entire procedure.

After considering the appeal, the commission changed its earlier decision and granted Wieczysta Kraków a license for the 2026/2027 season. However, the consent was subject to legal and infrastructural supervision. This means that the club can think about playing in the Ekstraklasa, but selected areas of its activities will continue to be monitored.

Play-offs without a license obstacle

The committee’s decision is of great sporting importance. Wiewiesta Kraków can join the play-offs without fear that any promotion will be blocked at the desk. Now everything depends on the results on the pitch, and Kazimierz Moskal’s team remains one of the candidates for a place in the top league.

The first rival of the Krakow team will be Polonia Warszawa. The semi-final of the play-offs is scheduled for Thursday, May 28. Wieczysta will act as the host, although in practice the issue of the stadium still remains an important organizational topic.

Where will Wieczysta play the match?

The club has not yet announced where the home play-off match will be held. The facility in Sosnowiec, which Wieczysta used previously, may be an option, but other solutions are also possible, including playing the match in Krakow, for example at the Wisła Kraków stadium.

If Wieczysta defeats Polonia Warszawa, they will play in the play-off final three days later. Her opponent will be the winner of the match between Chrobry Głogów and ŁKS Łódź. The stakes are huge, because the winner of the final will join the group of Ekstraklasa clubs.

Promotion is getting closer, but you have to win on the pitch

The license does not give Wiewiesta promotion, but removes an obstacle that could have weighed on the club before the decisive matches. Krakow’s inhabitants already know that if they succeed in sports, they will be able to play in the Ekstraklasa. Now the most important thing will be to maintain concentration and confirm our ambitions in the play-offs.
