Wieczysta Kraków wrote the most important chapter in its history. Kazimierz Moskal’s team defeated Chrobry Głogów in the play-off final and advanced to the PKO BP Ekstraklasa for the first time. Stefan Feiertag struck the decisive blow, and the ending brought emotions worthy of a match with such high stakes.

Perpetual Kraków with historic promotion

Wieczysta Kraków won against Chrobry Głogów 2:1 and secured a place in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. This is an unprecedented event for the Krakow club, as it has never played at the highest level of competition in Poland before. The promotion was won in the final of the play-offs, to which Wieczysta got through after winning over Polonia Warszawa.

Chrobry also went through a demanding path. Łukasz Becelli’s team had previously defeated ŁKS Łódź after overtime and came to the match at Reymonta with great ambitions. The beginning of the match showed that the team from Głogów did not intend to limit themselves to defense. The guests were brave, moved the ball well and quickly imposed difficult conditions on their opponents.

Chrobry’s advantage brought results before the end of the first quarter. After Szymon Bartlewicz’s precise cross, Myroslaw Mazur scored a free kick into the net. This goal confirmed the better start of the match for Głogów and put Wieczysta in an uncomfortable position.

Chrobry had opportunities to increase their lead. Kelechukwu Ibe-Torti missed a quick attack, and later Robert Mandrysz and Kacper Laskowski had their attempts. Missed opportunities proved costly. In the 30th minute, Dawid Arndt’s mistake was exploited by Lisandro Semedo, who led to a draw. Wiewiesta caught her breath after this hit, and after Lucas Piazon’s action she was close to another goal, but the ball did not reach any of his partners.

After the break, the image of the game changed significantly. Wieczysta started to press harder, played more aggressively and forced Chrobry to defend more and more often. Miki Villar played a large role in the goal scoring effort, fueling the hosts’ attack. In the 56th minute, Stefan Feiertag pushed the ball into the net, but only after a correction, but effectively.

The goal made it 2-1 and set the second half of the match. Wiewiecta could focus on controlling the result, while Chrobry had to look for answers. The Głogów team did not give up and were close to equalizing the score several times. After Sebastian Strózik’s shot, the ball bounced off the crossbar, and Mazur made a dangerous shot at the end. Antoni Mikułko, however, remained vigilant and saved the lead for the Krakow team.

The last minutes were nervous, because Chrobry fought until the end for overtime. Laskowski tried to shoot again, but the ball flew over the goal. Wiewiesta kept the lead and after the final whistle could celebrate the promotion she had been working for in recent seasons.

In the next season, the Krakow club will join the elite together with Wisła Kraków and Śląsk Wrocław. For Wiewiecta, this will be the biggest sports test in history. However, the play-offs showed that the team can react to difficult moments, make up for losses and take advantage of the most important opportunities. Now the club from Krakow has to make decisions that will determine how it will fare in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa.
