On the eve of Senegal’s high-stakes World Cup clash with France, head coach Pope Thiaw made it clear that while he holds the reigning champions in high regard, his own squad is no pushover.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, June 15, just hours before the Lions of Teranga step onto the pitch against the French side on Tuesday, Thiaw reflected on the team’s readiness. He credited their recent warm-up matches for sharpening their edge, but admitted that Tuesday’s encounter will be a true test.
“Those friendly matches really helped us prepare,” Thiaw said during the press conference. “We know we’re going up against an excellent side, and it’s going to be a tough battle. But we’re ready.“
The Senegalese manager didn’t shy away from praising France’s star-studded lineup, yet he quickly reminded everyone that Senegal boasts its own share of game-changing talent. “France have world-class players—and so do we,” he stated confidently. “We’re banking on our unity and spirit. Hopefully, we’ll rise to the occasion tomorrow.”
For Thiaw, the match carries deep symbolism beyond the scoreline. Still, he insists his focus remains purely on the sporting challenge ahead. “We want to win and keep moving forward in this World Cup,” he added.
