GKS Tychy is not slowing down after being relegated to the second league. The club is building its team for the new season and has chosen a player well known to coach René Poms. Matija Horvat is expected to strengthen the defense, but his profile also gives the staff additional opportunities in the midfield.
Matija Horvat is a new player of GKS Tychy
GKS Tychy confirmed the transfer of Matija Horvat. The Croatian defender joined the club from Admira Wacker and signed a contract valid until June 30, 2027.
The 27-year-old most often plays as a defender, but he can also play in midfield. Such versatility may be important for Tychy, who are rebuilding their team after relegation and need players ready for various tactical tasks.
Extensive experience from Austrian pitches
Horvat has spent his entire career in Austria. He is a graduate of DSV Leoben, and later represented SV Kapfenberg, TSV Hartberg and Admira Wacker.
Over the years, he has collected 67 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga and 144 matches in its backfield. This is a lot of experience that may prove valuable in the second league.
Back to the familiar staff
For Horvat, the move to Tychy means renewed cooperation with coach René Poms. The two worked together in the 2023/2024 season at DSV Leoben.
The Croatian also knows the assistant coach, Dino Škvorc. Thanks to this, his adaptation in the new club can be faster, and the staff knows exactly what to expect from the imported player.
GKS Tychy is building a team after relegation
Horvat is another summer reinforcement for Tychy. Previously, Matus Begala, Paweł Olkowski, Daniel Hoyo-Kowalski, Łukasz Tumała, Dawid Kasprzyk and Józef Chorosiński joined the club.
After falling to the second league, GKS wants to quickly put the team back together. The transfer of an experienced defender with an Austrian CV is part of the plan to build a team that will fight for a return to a higher level.
