Legia Warszawa won against Lechia Gdańsk after a late goal, but after the match there is a lot of talk not only about the result. The match squad did not include Patryk Kun, who had recently returned to the game after Marek Papszun’s arrival. The coach’s explanations and reports regarding the contract indicate that the left swingman may say goodbye to Łazienkowska in the summer.

Patryk Kun did not go to the match against Lechia

Kun’s absence was a surprise, because in the spring his situation in Legia had clearly improved. After Marek Papszun took over the team, the 31-year-old started getting opportunities again and it seemed that the coach knew his strengths well from the time they worked together in Raków Częstochowa. What was even more surprising was the fact that the player was not even in the squad for the important match against Lechia.

After the match, Papszun explained that Kun had reported being indisposed and did not go to training, which is why he did not go with the team to Gdańsk. The coach noted that the details were best known to the player because he had been participating in classes normally two days earlier. This statement did not end the topic, but rather strengthened questions about the footballer’s future.

The contract expires, there will be no new contract

Kun’s contract situation is clear. His contract with Legia is valid only until the end of the current season and there is no indication that the club plans to extend it. If this happens, the shuttler will leave Warsaw as a free player after three years spent at Łazienkowska.

This would mean the end of a stage that had different moments. Kun played 88 games for Legia, scored one goal and made six assists. He wasn’t always the first choice, but he was able to give the team energy on the left side, experience and solidity in a shuttle system.

Papszun knows him well, but that may not be enough

Papszun’s thread is particularly interesting here. The trainer has worked with Kun in Raków for a long time and knows perfectly well what to expect from him. The player’s spring return to a larger role could suggest that his acquaintance with the coach will help him extend his stay in Legia.

Apparently, however, the club is looking more broadly at the construction of the squad. After a difficult season, Legia will need changes, and players with expiring contracts are always in the first group to be verified. Kun can therefore pay not only for his own position in the team, but also for the planned reconstruction of the team.

Legia won, but the summer promises to be hot

The victory over Lechia improved the mood in Warsaw, but it did not cover up questions about the future of several players. Kun’s case shows that the time for personnel decisions is beginning at Łazienkowska. The club must determine who suits Papszun’s further project and who should look for a new place.

If the reports are confirmed, the match against Lechia could have been one of the last in which Kun’s name appeared in the context of Legia’s first team. His absence from the squad, the expiring contract and the lack of signals about a new contract create a picture of a breakup that seems more and more likely.
