A night of pure mayhem
What should have been a night of pure footballing celebration quickly dissolved into absolute anarchy.
Just minutes after the final whistle blew in Budapest confirming the French giants had successfully defended their European crown against Arsenal, thousands of supporters flooded the streets and suburbs of the capital.
According to official figures released by the French Ministry of the Interior at 1:30 AM, law enforcement detained 416 individuals nationwide, with 283 of those arrests occurring in the Greater Paris region alone as celebrations turned into urban warfare.

Casualties and widespread destruction
The violence left a tragic trail of severe injuries and heavy property damage across multiple districts.
Emergency services reported that a police officer was struck by a fleeing vehicle while 6 other law enforcement officials sustained injuries, one critically.
The chaos extended to the infrastructure, where a severe crash on the Paris ring road left 2 people fighting for their lives.
In separate horrifying incidents, an individual suffered a cardiac arrest before falling into the River Seine and another person was stabbed near the Place de la République.
Rioters weaponized fireworks and Molotov cocktails torching cars, bicycles, storefronts and buses. Special tactical units were forced to storm the Bastille zone and areas surrounding the Parc des Princes where the match had been broadcast live, to clear makeshift barricades built from scattered scooters.
In a direct challenge to authority, a rogue group even attempted to launch an assault on a police station in the eighth arrondissement.

A recurring dark side of football glory
This level of post match devastation is rapidly becoming a deeply troubling tradition in French football.
Just 12 months ago, nearly identical scenes played out when the Parisians secured their maiden European crown against Inter Milan. That 2025 celebration proved even more lethal resulting in two fatalities, nine injured officers and 559 arrests.
Authorities are now on high alert as the club prepares for its official victory parade today 31 May.
With the squad scheduled to celebrate at the Champ de Mars before an official reception at the Élysée Palace, over 100000 fans are expected to line the streets forcing a massive security lockdown across the city.

The heavy cost of football passion
This alarming trend of football euphoria morphing into riots mirrors the chaotic scenes witnessed in Naples in 2023.
When Napoli clinched their first Scudetto in 33 year, the southern Italian city exploded into a mix of joy and violence that left one man dead from gunshot wounds and over 200 people hospitalized with injuries ranging from knife slashes to severe firework burns.
