Strong static magnetism ensures that trapped particles stay in place, meaning the air in your home is free of allergens. Electrostatic filters come in two variations: disposable and reusable types. Depending on your needs and preferences, you can choose the one that suits you.

The advantages include:

  • Cost-effective
  • Good air filtration as an electrostatic filter can capture smaller pollutants
  • With a MERV rating of 6, an electrostatic filter can work efficiently

Disadvantages include:

  • Insufficient air flow when the electrostatic air filter is clogged
  • If you use a reusable electrostatic air filter, it needs to be cleaned at least once a month to ensure that it can operate efficiently.

UV (Ultraviolet) Air Filters.

UV HVAC filters kill bacteria and viruses using ultraviolet rays. UV lamps present in the filters disinfect the air passing through the heating and cooling units through germicidal irradiation. UV filters are suitable for different environments, such as kitchens, laboratories and daycares.

The advantages include:

  • Good air filtration
  • It offers good results

Disadvantages include:

  • Less effective as they cannot get rid of pollutants such as fumes, odors, and cigarette smoke

The efficiency of a filter is measured by the MERV rating. If you have problems with allergies, you can buy a filter with a MERV rating of 8 or more. However, you need to make sure that the air filter you are buying is compatible with your heating and cooling system.

How often air filters should be replaced

Different factors dictate the period for replacing air filters. For example, does your home accumulate a significant amount of dust or pet fur? If so, you need to replace your air filters often. Generally, if you have a 1 inch air filter, you need to check it every month. In addition to monthly checks, the air filter is supposed to be replaced when necessary, usually every 90 days.
